Browser script execution via disabled template autoescaping
Published Jul 23, 2022 · Updated Aug 5, 2024
Cross-site scripting in Django REST framework before 3.9.1 allows remote attackers to execute script in a user's browser via the Browsable API. The default Browsable API templates disable autoescaping, so values processed by urlize_quoted_links reach HTML output without escaping. Exploitation requires a user to view affected API output; the script then runs in that user's browser context and can read or modify page-accessible data.
