Guest-account privilege escalation via unenforced Web UI restrictions
Published Jun 17, 2022 · Updated Apr 15, 2025
Improper privilege management in uTorrent's Web UI allows remote attackers to perform restricted actions through an enabled Guest account. The Guest authorization path accepts restricted requests, including action=getsettings, instead of enforcing documented view-only access. Reachability requires an enabled Web UI, a configured guest username, and user interaction; successful requests expose settings and actions beyond read-only torrent viewing.
