CVE-2018-25032Network attack vector

Process crash via deflate symbol-buffer overwrite

Published Mar 25, 2022 · Updated Jul 14, 2026

Out-of-bounds write in Siemens products using zlib allows remote attackers to crash an affected process during compression of crafted data. When Z_FIXED processes input containing many distant matches, the pending output buffer overwrites the distance symbol table sharing its storage, producing invalid distances and out-of-bounds accesses. Reachability requires an affected product to pass attacker-controlled data into zlib's deflate path; the documented consequence is a service-interrupting process crash.
