Memory corruption via misowned format-info wrapper
Published Dec 26, 2021 · Updated Aug 5, 2024
Use-after-free in libpulse-binding before 1.2.1 allows attackers to corrupt memory through Stream::get_format_info results. Stream::get_format_info constructs an owned wrapper without the flag that preserves the borrowed PulseAudio C object, so dropping the wrapper destroys that object. The flaw is reached only when consuming Rust code calls the method and releases its result, leaving the process with a dangling reference.
