Memory corruption via unsound string lifetime extension
Published Dec 26, 2021 · Updated Aug 5, 2024
Memory corruption in the actix-web crate before 0.7.15 allows remote attackers to corrupt memory through an unsound string-lifetime extension. An unsafe operation lets a borrowed string reference outlive its backing allocation; public records do not identify the affected function or request shape. Network access requires no authentication or user interaction, and RustSec identifies use-after-free as the most likely corruption scenario.
