Local privilege escalation via BPF jump overflow

A buffer overflow in the Linux kernel BPF subsystem before 4.17 allows local users to crash the system or escalate privileges. During translation and hardening, long jumps crossing heavily expanded instruction sequences can exceed the signed 16-bit branch offset and wrap, causing truncated targets and an out-of-bounds execution panic. Exploitation requires local ability to load and run BPF programs; systems disabling unprivileged BPF reduce exposure, while successful abuse can compromise confidentiality, integrity, and availability.
