CVE-2018-25004Network attack vector

Authenticated service crash via UUID find explain

Published Mar 1, 2021 · Updated Nov 19, 2024

Improper input validation in MongoDB Server 3.6 before 3.6.11 and 4.0 before 4.0.6 allows remote authenticated users to crash mongod. The explain path accepts a collection UUID for find where a collection name is required, then reaches an invariant failure instead of rejecting the BSON type. The caller needs high privileges to issue the query, and successful exploitation interrupts database availability without reported data disclosure or modification.
