Device compromise via pre-authentication buffer overflow
Published Apr 28, 2020 · Updated Aug 5, 2024
A pre-authentication buffer overflow in NETGEAR router, gateway, and extender firmware allows adjacent remote attackers to compromise devices. NETGEAR has not disclosed the affected component, input field, buffer, or copy operation, so the exact overwrite mechanism remains unavailable. An attacker on an adjacent network needs no account or user interaction; successful exploitation can disclose or alter data and interrupt the device.
