Unauthenticated code execution via traceroute stack overflow
Published Apr 22, 2020 · Updated Aug 5, 2024
Stack overflow in the NETGEAR XR500 traceroute handler before 2.3.2.32 allows remote attackers to execute code without authentication. NETGEAR identifies a pre-authentication stack overflow in the traceroute handler but has not disclosed the affected input, buffer, or copy operation. The attacker must reach the router from an adjacent network; successful exploitation runs attacker-controlled code in the handler's context.
