Local privilege escalation via proxyCPDFAction stack overflow
Published Jan 7, 2021 · Updated Aug 5, 2024
Stack overflow in Foxit Reader before 9.5 and PhantomPDF before 8.3.10 or 9.x before 9.5 allows local users to run code at medium integrity. The proxyCPDFAction request handler fails to validate a user-supplied large integer or long string, allowing concurrent processing to overrun a stack buffer or read beyond its bounds. Exploitation requires the ability to run low-privileged code locally, and successful exploitation elevates execution to medium integrity.
