Bluetooth packet disclosure via unrestricted hcidump utility
Published Jan 22, 2020 · Updated Aug 5, 2024
Improper privilege management in Samsung Galaxy Gear firmware before build RE2 allows local users to capture Bluetooth HCI packets. The bundled hcidump utility lacks privilege and permission restrictions, so an unprivileged process can write captured HCI traffic to an arbitrary file path. Local code execution is required, and exposed packet contents depend on Bluetooth activity visible to the watch.
