Application crash via trailing-backslash buffer over-read
Published Jun 18, 2020 · Updated Aug 5, 2024
Out-of-bounds read in adns before 1.5.2 allows attackers to crash an adns-using application via a backslash-terminated query domain. With adns_qf_quoteok_query enabled, qdparselabel advances beyond the input buffer and interprets adjacent heap bytes as an escape sequence. Exploitation requires control of a queried domain name and can exhaust available memory before validation fails, interrupting the consuming application.
