CVE-2017-3772

System reboot via malformed driver IOCTL input

Published Jul 31, 2024 · Updated Aug 1, 2024

Improper input validation in Lenovo PC Manager before 2.6.40.3154 allows local users to force a Windows system reboot. The COOLit32.sys driver accepts invalid input for IOCTL 0x9C402000 and reaches a blue-screen failure instead of rejecting the request. Low-privileged local access is required, and successful triggering interrupts availability by rebooting the host without reported data disclosure or modification.
