LocalSystem code execution via unsafe service configuration
Published Mar 15, 2026 · Updated Mar 15, 2026
Unquoted service paths in Serviio Pro 1.6.1, 1.7.0, 1.7.1, and 1.8.0.0 on Windows allow local users to execute code as LocalSystem. The Serviio service registers C:\Program Files\Serviio\bin\ServiioService.exe without quotation marks, while inherited full-control permissions for Users permit replacement of that executable. A low-privileged authenticated local account must place a matching executable in the search path or replace the service binary; execution occurs when the automatic service starts or the host reboots.

Exploitability
Present is not the same as exploitable
Compare your product and version with the public record. A matching version still requires validation against your environment.
