CVE-2017-20186

Server crash via backslash-containing player names

Published Aug 28, 2023 · Updated Jul 1, 2025

Denial of service in ckSurf 1.19.0 through 1.19.2 allows remote authenticated users to crash the game server via a crafted player name. SpecListMenuDead passes an unsanitized name containing backslashes through the spectator-list Format call instead of stripping the backslashes before appending the text. A connected player who can set that name can trigger lag or a crash when spectator menus are built; no data disclosure or modification is reported.
