Browser script execution via unescaped username
Published Feb 5, 2023 · Updated Aug 5, 2024
Stored XSS in DaSchTour Matomo 2.4.0 through 2.4.2 allows remote authenticated users to execute script via a crafted MediaWiki username. Piwik.hooks.php reads the logged-in user's name and interpolates it unescaped into the setUserId JavaScript call generated by AddPiwik. Exploitation requires username tracking to be enabled and a logged-in account with a crafted name; the demonstrated consequence is script execution in that account's browser session.
