CVE-2017-20174Network attack vector

Arbitrary file write via unvalidated profile image

Published Jan 19, 2023 · Updated Apr 3, 2025

File injection in Bastian Allgeier Kirby Webmentions Plugin allows remote attackers to write files through crafted profile-image URLs. The Author::photo method fetches an untrusted photo URL and writes the response using its URL-derived extension before validating the saved file's MIME type. A reachable webmention endpoint and PHP-capable served storage are required; successful abuse executes code with the web server's privileges.
