CVE-2017-20144Public exploit

Local privilege escalation via oversized HTML template

Published Jul 24, 2022 · Updated Apr 15, 2025

Buffer overflow in Convert_Pro.dll in Anvsoft PDFMate PDF Converter Pro 1.7.5.0 allows local users to gain higher privileges. HtmlBook::BuildIndex processes an oversized Unicode title from htmltemplate/index.html without a safe buffer bound, overwriting registers during HTML conversion. Low-privileged access to alter the installed template and run HTML conversion is required; the published proof of concept demonstrates a process crash and instruction-pointer control.
