SYSTEM command execution via injected OpenVPN directive
Published Jun 29, 2022 · Updated Apr 15, 2025
Improper privilege management in IVPN Client for Windows 2.6.6120.33863 allows local users to execute commands as SYSTEM. The privileged local service accepts a user-controlled server hostname, writes it into an OpenVPN configuration, and permits injected line breaks to introduce an --up command. A low-privileged account can connect to the loopback service and cause OpenVPN to launch the supplied command with SYSTEM privileges, yielding full host control.
