Arbitrary command execution via layout template injection
Published Jun 20, 2022 · Updated Apr 15, 2025
Code injection in Elefant CMS 1.3.12-RC allows remote authenticated users to execute arbitrary commands through the layout editor. The /designer/add/layout handler accepts a passthru function call embedded in layout-template syntax and compiles it into executable PHP. An account permitted to edit themes is required; the admin role has that permission by default, and successful exploitation runs attacker-selected commands.
