Account takeover via request-supplied reset email
Published Jun 19, 2020 · Updated Aug 5, 2024
Improper password recovery in Mattermost Server before 4.0.0, 3.10.2, and 3.9.2 allows remote attackers to receive reset links. The SendPasswordReset function resolves the account but passes the request-supplied email, rather than the stored user.Email value, to SendPasswordResetEmail. Authentication is not required; delivery to an attacker-provided address exposes a valid reset link and enables takeover of the resolved account.
