Stored XSS via unsafe uploaded-file content type
Published Jun 19, 2020 · Updated Aug 5, 2024
Stored XSS in Mattermost Server before 3.9.2 and 3.10.0 through 3.10.1 allows remote attackers to execute script via an uploaded file. The writeFileResponse path returned uploaded bytes with their stored MIME type without downgrading script-capable types or setting X-Content-Type-Options nosniff. Exploitation requires a user to open the crafted file, after which script runs in the Mattermost origin and can read or alter data available to that user.
