Forged cross-origin requests via substring origin matching
Published Jun 19, 2020 · Updated Aug 5, 2024
CSRF in Mattermost Server before 3.9.2 and 3.10.0-rc1 through 3.10.1 allows remote attackers to forge requests via origin substring matching. CorsWrapper and OriginChecker treat an Origin header as allowed when it is merely a substring of the configured CORS allowlist, then reflect that origin in Access-Control-Allow-Origin. CORS must be enabled, and exploitation requires user interaction; accepted cross-origin requests carry the victim's session authority.
