Stored XSS via unescaped channel display names
Published Jun 19, 2020 · Updated Aug 5, 2024
Stored XSS in Mattermost Server before 4.2.0, 4.1.1, and 4.0.5 allows remote attackers to execute script in users' browsers. The autolinkChannelMentions function inserted a channel display name into mention-link HTML without escaping ampersands, angle brackets, or quotes. Execution requires another user to view a channel mention that renders the attacker-controlled display name, exposing that user's browser session to script actions.
