HTML injection in Mattermost Server before 4.0.5, 4.1.0 through 4.1.0, and 4.2.0-rc1 allows remote attackers to alter email content. Email-building paths in app/email.go and app/notification.go passed dynamic translation values into strings marked as trusted template.HTML without escaping them. Exploitation requires a recipient to view a generated email containing an attacker-controlled username, address, site name, or sender name, permitting deceptive content but no reported service interruption.
