Authenticated code execution via unbounded s_value copy
Published Jan 11, 2023 · Updated Apr 8, 2025
Stack-based buffer overflow in Insteon Hub firmware 1012 allows remote authenticated users to execute code through PubNub commands. The cmd s_event_var handler copies the s_value JSON field with strcpy into a 244-byte stack buffer without enforcing a length limit. PubNub authentication is required; oversized input overwrites stack data and can redirect execution on the Hub.
