Authenticated code execution via unchecked s_offset copy
Published Jan 11, 2023 · Updated Apr 8, 2025
Stack-based buffer overflow in Insteon Hub firmware 1012 allows remote authenticated users to execute code via a crafted PubNub command. The cc-channel s_event_var handler passes the unbounded s_offset JSON value to strcpy for a 32-byte stack buffer. Valid PubNub credentials are required; an oversized value overwrites stack data and permits device compromise or a service crash.
