Authenticated code execution via unbounded s_raw copy
Published Jan 11, 2023 · Updated Apr 8, 2025
Stack-based buffer overflow in Insteon Hub firmware 1012 allows remote authenticated users to execute code via a PubNub command. The cmd s_event handler passes the unbounded s_raw JSON value to strcpy, copying more than 244 bytes into a stack buffer and overwriting adjacent data. Access requires authentication to the PubNub service, and successful exploitation runs code in the hub firmware context.
