CVE-2017-16325Public exploitNetwork attack vector

Authenticated code execution via unbounded s_group_cmd copy

Published Jan 11, 2023 · Updated Apr 9, 2025

Stack-based buffer overflow in Insteon Hub 2245-222 firmware 1012 allows remote authenticated users to execute code via PubNub. The cc-channel handler's cmd s_sonos path passes the unbounded s_group_cmd JSON string to strcpy, which copies it into a 32-byte stack buffer. Possession of valid PubNub authentication material is required; an oversized value can overwrite saved registers and the return address, enabling code execution or a crash.
