Authenticated code execution via unchecked s_group_vol copy
Published Jan 11, 2023 · Updated Apr 8, 2025
Stack-based buffer overflow in Insteon Hub firmware 1012 allows remote authenticated users to execute code via a crafted PubNub command. The cc-channel s_sonos handler passes the unbounded s_group_vol string to strcpy, which copies it into a 32-byte stack buffer. A valid authenticated smartphone-service request is required, and an oversized value overwrites stack data under the hub firmware's execution context.
