Authenticated code execution via unbounded Sonos index copy
Published Jan 11, 2023 · Updated Apr 8, 2025
Stack-based buffer overflow in Insteon Hub 2245-222 firmware 1012 allows remote authenticated users to execute code via PubNub commands. The cc-channel s_sonos handler copies the unbounded s_sonos_index JSON value with strcpy into an eight-byte stack buffer. A PubNub-authenticated request is required; overflowing the buffer permits arbitrary-data overwrite and code execution on the hub.
