Authenticated code execution via unbounded g_meta_page copy
Published Jan 11, 2023 · Updated Apr 8, 2025
Stack-based buffer overflow in the PubNub cc-channel handler in Insteon Hub firmware 1012 allows remote authenticated users to execute code. The cmd s_sonos path copies the attacker-controlled g_meta_page JSON string with strcpy into a 32-byte stack buffer without a length check. Exploitation requires PubNub authentication and can overwrite stack data in the Hub firmware process, enabling device compromise.
