Authenticated code execution via unchecked id copy
Published Jan 11, 2023 · Updated Apr 8, 2025
Stack-based buffer overflow in Insteon Hub firmware 1012 allows remote authenticated users to execute code via a crafted PubNub command. The cc-channel handler passes the sn_ex id value to strcpy without checking its length, copying more than 32 bytes into a stack buffer. A valid PubNub account and authenticated HTTP request are required; successful exploitation can overwrite control data and execute code on the hub.
