Authenticated code execution via unchecked PubNub copy
Published Jan 11, 2023 · Updated Apr 8, 2025
Stack-based buffer overflow in Insteon Hub firmware 1012 allows remote authenticated users to execute code via a PubNub message. The cc-channel sn_raw handler passes the attacker-controlled d string to strcpy without checking its length before copying it into a 100-byte stack buffer. A valid PubNub authentication key and the hub-specific channel are required; an oversized value can overwrite saved registers and the return address or crash the hub.
