Authenticated code execution via unchecked off value
Published Jan 11, 2023 · Updated Apr 8, 2025
Stack-based buffer overflow in Insteon Hub 2245-222 firmware 1012 allows remote authenticated users to execute code via PubNub. The s_schd handler passes the unbounded off string to strcpy, copying it into a 16-byte stack buffer without a length check. A valid smartphone-service session and crafted authenticated HTTP request are required; successful exploitation overwrites stack data and grants control of the hub.
