Authenticated code execution via oversized gate value
Published Jan 11, 2023 · Updated Apr 8, 2025
Stack overflow in the PubNub cc handler in Insteon Hub firmware 1012 allows remote authenticated users to execute code via a crafted command. The s_net command handler passes the unbounded gate string to strcpy, which copies it into a 32-byte stack buffer at offset 0x290. Valid PubNub credentials are required; successful exploitation can take control of the hub or interrupt its service.
