Authenticated code execution via unchecked gbt copy
Published Jan 11, 2023 · Updated Apr 9, 2025
Stack-based buffer overflow in Insteon Hub 2245-222 firmware 1012 allows remote authenticated users to execute code via PubNub. The sn_grp handler copies the gbt JSON string with strcpy into a 16-byte stack buffer without checking its length. An authenticated PubNub account and a crafted cc-channel message are required; successful exploitation controls the Hub's firmware execution.
