Authenticated code execution via unchecked grp copy
Published Jan 11, 2023 · Updated Apr 9, 2025
Stack-based buffer overflow in Insteon Hub 2245-222 firmware 1012 allows remote authenticated users to execute code through PubNub. The cc-channel e_l handler copies the grp string with strcpy into an eight-byte stack buffer at $sp+0x1b4 without checking its length. Access requires a valid PubNub authentication key and an as_c value of exactly 1; an oversized grp value overwrites stack data and enables code execution.
