Authenticated code execution via unchecked grp copy
Published Jan 11, 2023 · Updated Apr 8, 2025
Stack-based buffer overflow in Insteon Hub firmware 1012 allows remote authenticated users to execute code via a crafted PubNub command. The s_b handler passes the grp JSON value to strcpy for an eight-byte stack buffer at $sp+0x1b4 without checking its length. A valid PubNub-authenticated request containing more than eight bytes reaches the overflow, permitting arbitrary data overwrite and code execution.
