Authenticated code execution via unchecked grp copy
Published Jan 11, 2023 · Updated Apr 8, 2025
Stack-based buffer overflow in the PubNub cc-channel handler of Insteon Hub firmware 1012 allows remote authenticated users to execute code. The l_bt command path passes its grp string to strcpy for an eight-byte stack buffer without enforcing a length limit. A valid Hub-linked application session must publish the crafted command through PubNub, after which the overwrite can corrupt control data and run attacker-supplied code.
