Authenticated code execution via unchecked username copy
Published Jan 11, 2023 · Updated Apr 9, 2025
Stack-based buffer overflow in Insteon Hub firmware 1012 allows remote authenticated users to execute code via a PubNub command. The cmd s_auth handler copies the usr value with strcpy into a 32-byte stack buffer at $sp+0x290 without enforcing its length. A valid PubNub auth key and device channel are required; oversized input overwrites stack data and enables code execution on the hub.
