Unauthenticated code execution via crafted JSP uploads
Published Sep 19, 2017 · Updated Aug 6, 2026
RCE in Apache Tomcat 7.0.0 through 7.0.79 allows remote attackers to execute code via crafted JSP uploads on Windows. Crafted PUT paths bypass JSP upload restrictions, causing the DefaultServlet to save attacker-supplied JSP code that executes when subsequently requested. Exploitation requires HTTP PUT writes to be enabled, such as by setting readonly to false; the default read-only configuration rejects these writes, and execution occurs within the server process.
