Local code execution via oversized -rc argument
Published Mar 28, 2026 · Updated Mar 28, 2026
Stack buffer overflow in HNB Project Hierarchical Notebook 1.9.18-10 allows local users to execute code through an oversized -rc argument. The -rc option copies attacker-controlled input into a fixed-size stack buffer, and input beyond 108 bytes overwrites control data. Local command-line access is required, and successful exploitation runs code with the invoking account's privileges.
