CVE-2016-20040Public exploit

Local code execution via oversized ROM argument

Published Mar 28, 2026 · Updated Mar 28, 2026

Stack buffer overflow in TiEmu 3.03 allows local users to crash the application or execute arbitrary code via an oversized ROM argument. The ROM parameter handler accepts an oversized command-line value into a fixed-size stack buffer without bounds enforcement, allowing the value to overwrite the instruction pointer. Local invocation of the tiemu command is required, and successful exploitation runs code with the invoking user's privileges.
