Unauthenticated file upload via flawed extension validation

Published Oct 16, 2024 · Updated Apr 8, 2026

Unrestricted upload in Frontend File Manager before 4.0 and Post Front-end Form 1.0 and earlier allows remote attackers to store files. The nm_filemanager_upload_file and nm_postfront_upload_file AJAX handlers fail to reject dangerous file types; Frontend File Manager's empty default allowlist treats an empty extension returned for PHP as allowed. No authentication is required, and a PHP file stored under the web-accessible uploads directory enables code execution in the site's context.
