Local data disclosure via external entity expansion
Published Feb 20, 2023 · Updated Aug 6, 2024
XML external entity injection in 3breadt dd-plist 1.17 allows local users to read local data through a crafted XML property list. XMLPropertyListParser creates a DocumentBuilderFactory without disabling external DTD loading or external entity expansion, so parsing resolves attacker-supplied resource identifiers. Exploitation requires local low-privileged access and is limited to resources readable by the process using the library.
