Browser script execution via unencoded server banner
Published Jan 29, 2023 · Updated Mar 27, 2025
Cross-site scripting in CImage 0.7.18 and earlier allows attackers to execute script in a browser via a crafted server software value. check_system.php directly concatenates $_SERVER['SERVER_SOFTWARE'] into an HTML response without encoding the value. Exploitation requires that value to be attacker-influenced and a victim to load the diagnostic page, enabling script execution in that browser context.
