Cross-site scripting via typed file-preview responses
Published Jun 19, 2020 · Updated Aug 6, 2024
Cross-site scripting in Mattermost Server before 3.5.1 allows remote attackers to run script in another user's browser through file preview. The CodePreview AJAX request does not force preview data to text, so JSON or XML content is parsed by type instead of retained as inert source. Exploitation requires a victim to preview attacker-controlled content and can expose or modify data available to that browser session.
