Sound disruption via unprotected broadcast intent
Published Apr 7, 2020 · Updated Aug 6, 2024
Improper access control in Samsung mobile devices with Android 6.0 allows attackers to disable all sound through a broadcast intent. The Sound functionality accepts an intent without permission protection and performs the operation that disables device audio. The attacker must be able to broadcast an Android intent on the device; the documented consequence is loss of all sound, not a device crash.
