Heap corruption via concurrent MAX86902 sysfs access
Published Apr 7, 2020 · Updated Aug 6, 2024
Race condition in Samsung mobile devices running Android 4.4, 5.0, 5.1, or 6.0 allows attackers to corrupt heap memory through MAX86902 sysfs access. The driver exposes sysfs operations without synchronizing concurrent callers, allowing racing accesses to overrun a heap buffer. Reachability requires a Samsung device with heart-rate-monitor sensor support and an affected Android release; public records identify no stronger consequence than memory corruption.
